TEXAS40K SPRING ESCALATION LEAGUE
Welcome to the Texas40K Spring Escalation League! This league is designed to help you build up your army and play new players and armies here in the DFW 40K community. This league is all about getting games in and having lots of fun!

LEAGUE OVERVIEW
• Begins March 9th, 2014
• Ends May 3rd, 2014
• 750pts – 1500pts with 2 weeks dedicated to each point level
• $10 buy-in
• Play as many games as you want – no limit per bracket
• End of league tournament determined by league placement

HOW TO SIGN UP
Please email me directly at nikki@texas40k.com with the following information:
•Name
•Email Address
•Phone (if you’d like to share for the league roster)
•Army #1
•Army #2
•Will you be competing in the League Kick-Off Combat Patrol Tournament on 3/8? (More details here : http://texas40k.com/event/texas40k-league-kick-off-500pt-combat-patrol-tournament/)

IMPORTANT : Your name will not be added to the league results until the $10 buy-in is collected.
I am at Comic Asylum every Thursday night and Texas Toy Soldier on Tuesdays. I can also make other visits to stores as necessary.

ARMY/RULE SELECTION
•ARMIES – Each league participant may play up to 2 codices throughout the league. These forces can be used as allies, following the Allies chart in the 40k Rulebook, or as two separate armies.
•MISSIONS – The missions found in the core rulebook should be used for all games.
•STRONGHOLD/ESCALATION RULES – These supplements ARE ALLOWED as long as both players agree to use the rules for them. This means that you should be prepared with a list that does NOT use these rules in case your opponent does not agree to them.
•FORMATIONS - These ARE ALLOWED as long as both players agree to use the rule for them. Similar to Stronghold/Escalation, be prepared if your opponent does not want to use these rules.

WHERE CAN I PLAY GAMES?
Anywhere! The league really is about getting games in.
That being said – you will receive extra points for playing someone the first time. This means that going up to a store and meeting new players will grant you additional bonus points.

HOW DO I REPORT MY GAMES?
You may report all games using the Battle Report form here - http://texas40k.com/battle-report/. From the Texas40k home page, there is a link to the League at the very top and then "Battle Report". Only one player needs to submit the Battle Report.
If you or your opponent are not listed on this form yet, please email me directly at nikki@texas40k.com and we'll be sure to add them.

LEAGUE DATES
• March 9th – March 22nd – 750 points
• March 23rd – April 5th – 1000 points
• April 6th – April 19th – 1250 points
• April 20th – May 2nd – 1500 points
• May 3rd – End of League Tournament/Wrap-Up

LEAGUE POINTS
• Winning a game: 4 points
• Tying a game: 3 points
• Losing a game: 2 points
• Playing someone for the first time: Additional 4 points

Playing someone for the first time in the Spring League promotes everyone to play more league members and more armies. These points are in addition to the points earned by the results of the game.

STANDINGS AND PRIZES
The end of league tournament brackets will be determined using the league results. The winner of this tournament will be the League Champion!

More prizes are being determined – updates to come!

Sounds great! Can't wait to get started.

What's the ruling on ForgeWorld? Are they only units in Imperial Armour books? Are ForgeWorld lists allowed? Are experimental units allowed?

I think "Yes" to Forgeworld, but you would have to ask your opponent for the ones that are still experimental similar to the Stronghold/Formation ruling in the league details. :D If you plan on bringing these models you will need to have the rules on you for the game.

I'd like to keep the games as open as possible to try out new units/rules, but your opponent should feel ok saying "No" to something they're not as familiar/comfortable with from the other books.

Please let me know if there are any other questions!

Playing someone for the first time in the Spring League, or ever? I've played your 'nid in the past, for example.

Do I get points for playing your 'nids in the Spring League? What about playing your wolves?

I think the answer is "no" to both of these, but want to check...

I do like the idea of playing new people!

It will be per league. So if this is your first time playing the person, not army, in the league you will get the bonus points. It will reset at the beginning of the next league so you can get those bonus points again. At least, this is my understanding.

This is correct - sorry for it being unclear! The first time you play that person for the Spring League will earn you the bonus points. I'll update this now!

As far as Forge World and Stronghold Assault and Escalation, I don't see any reason whatsoever to disallow them at all. I might put a 'with approval' on anything from FW that is still experimental, and perhaps put a 'with approval' on D Strength Weapons, but honestly I don't see anyone abusing D pie plates to win our league, we are all pretty laid back, and most of the superheavy options are really overcosted, to be honest.

All of the above are official books, published by games workshop. Trying to disallow them is intentionally changing the game, equivalent to disallowing screamers or wave serpents. I see why people freak out, but that doesn't mean we need to outlaw things, at least not in my opinion.

Experimental rules are the exception. While they are published by GW, they are basically beta testing the rules, so they are not official yet. Anything else should be fair game, FW units and lists, white dwarf units, etc.

They're not being disallowed, both people have to agree to use them. If Daniel brought an Eldar titan in for a game, I wouldn't agree to play with it as it's way too powerful for the point levels we're playing at. If it was a skyshield with the upgrade to start a flier on it, that's fine.

Personally, I like the idea of both players having to agree to using those rules. They are not a part of the main rulebook after all, and I'm not well versed on what to expect from a rules supplement that affects me so much.

Bruce, why don't you chat with Nikki offline a bit more about this? Looks like things are getting a bit wordy, and I'd hate it if onlookers became confused with what rules are being used. I think we are all chilling tonight at CA anyway.
